Rotary House – A history of Bethany Church of the Nazarene

The Meaford Bethany Church of the Nazarene was originally organized as the Bayview Gospel Workers Church, located at that time on what is now Bayview Park on Highway 26, just east of the 11th Concession of St. Vincent Township, in 1904. The first pastor of this congregation was Rev. W. J. Morrison.

A second Gospel Workers’ congregation was established in Meaford with Rev. Albert E. Armstrong, and this congregation built the Gothic Revival church on Trowbridge around 1925.

On February 26, 1947, the two congregation united and formed the main Meaford congregation at the Meaford location.

In 1965 the sanctuary and front entrance and new church furnishings were dedicated by Rev. Bruce Taylor, District Superintendent.

In 1966 a lawn sign was erected in memory of the late Herbert and Edith Dunnill.

In 1967 a new piano was placed in memory of the late L. S. Bradbury as a gift from his estate.

Under the leadership of Rev. Donald Rossiter, the church was completely renovated with the sanctuary being turned around 180 degrees, the floor elevated and made level, and a new extension that included kitchen facilities, more classrooms, overflow worship space, nursery facilities, offices and entrances added to the rear of the building. Dedication of the newly renovated facility took place October 8, 1978 with special guests, Dr. Eugene Stowe, General Superintendent and Rev. Lorne MacMillan, District Superintendent.

The Meaford Food Bank, which was established in 1984, found a new home in the church around 2010.
